Electromechanical
parking brake
Operating
The electromechanical parking brake replaces
the hand brake.

Your vehicle is equipped with an el ectromechani -
cal parking brake. T
he parking brake is designed
to prevent the vehicle from rolling unintentional-
ly and replaces the hand brake.
In addition to the norma l functions of a tradi-
tional hand brake, the electromechanica l parking
brake provides various convenience
and safety
functions .
Driv ing
When starting from rest
- The i ntegra l hill start assist helps you when
driving by au t oma t ically rel eas ing the parking
brake ¢ page 62 , Starting from a stop.
- When start ing on inclines, the hill star t assist
prevents the vehicle from uni ntentionally roll-
ing back. The braking force
of the parking brake
is
not rel eased until sufficient dr iving force has
been bui lt up at the whee l s.
Emergency brake function
An emergency braking function ensures th at the
vehicle can be slowed down even if the normal
brakes fail ¢ page 62 , Emergency braking
function.
Indicator lights
- If the p ar king bra ke is set when t he ignition is
switched on, the . indicator lights in the dis-
play
and in the button tu rn on.
- If
the parking bra ke is set when the ignition is
switched off , the . indicator lights in the dis-
play
and in the bu tton tu rn on for approximate-
ly 20 seconds.
A WARNING

- Do not press the accel erator pedal inadver-
tently if the vehicle is stationary but the en-
g in e is running and a gear is selected. Oth-
erwise the vehicle will start to move imme-
diate ly and could result in a crash .

If the power supply fails, the released park-
ing brake
can no longer engage . In t his
case, par k t he vehicle on level ground and
secure it by placing the sele c to r lever in the
P posit i on. See an authorize d Au di dea ler or
author i zed Au di Se rvice Facili ty for assis -
tance.

- If the parking brake is set w hi le t he ignit ion
