- If you have a fl at tire, move a safe distance
off the road. Turn off the engine, turn the
emergency flashers on and use other warn-
ing devices to alert other motorists.
- Make sure that passengers wait in a safe
place away from the vehicle and well away
from the road and traffic.
-
To help prevent the vehicle from moving
suddenly and possibly slipping off the jack,
always fully
set the parking brake and block
the wheel diagonally oppos i te the wheel be-
ing changed. When one front wheel is lifted
off the gr ound, placing the Automatic
T ransmission in P (Park) will not prevent the
vehicle from moving.
- Before you
change a wheel, be sure the
ground is level and firm . If necessary, use a
sturdy board under the jack.
- Always
store the vehicle tool kit, the jack
and the r eplaced tire in the l uggage com-
partment¢ page 176.
Changing a wheel
When you change a wheel, follow the sequence
described
below step-by-step and in exactly that
order.
1. Remove the decorative wheel cov er* . For
more det ails see also¢ page 2 78, Decora-
tive wheel covers or c::> page 2 79, Wheels
with wheel bolt caps.
2. L oosen the wheel bol ts ¢ page 2 79.
3. Locate the proper mounting point for the
jack and align the jack below that point
c::> page280.
4 . Rai se the car wi th the jack c::> page 280 .
5. Remove the wheel with the flat tire and then
install the spare ¢ page 281 .
6. Tighten all wheel bol ts li ght ly.
7.
Lower the vehicle wi th the jack.
8. Use the wheel bolt wrench and firmly tighten
all wheel bolts ¢ page 279.
9. Replace the decorative wheel co v er* .

After changing a wheel
A wheel change is not complete without the do-
ing the following.
.. Always store the vehicle too l kit, the jack* and
the replaced tire in the luggage compartment
c::>page 176 .
.. Check the tire pr es sure on the spare wheel im-
mediately afte r mounting it.
.,. As soon as poss ible, have the tightening tor-
ques on all wheel bolts checked with a torque
wrench. T he correct ti ghteni ng torque is 90 ft
lb (120 Nm).
.. Have the flat t ire replaced as soon as poss ible.

- If you not i ce t hat the wheel bo lt s are cor-
roded and di ff icult to turn while changing a
t ire,
they should be replaced before you
check
the tightening torque .
- Drive
at reduced speed until you have the
t i ghtening torques checked.

After changing a wheel, the tire pressure in
all four tires must be checked/corrected and
the tire pressure monitoring indicator must
be stored in the Infotainment c::> page 269 .
