Laser RGB correction
Based on the measured values the projector can balance the power of the lasers for Red Green and Blue to
move the projector uncorrected white point towards the desired white point. This adjustment is called 'Laser
RGB correction' or 'Laser power calibration'.
2D and 3D projector mode
The projector uncorrected white point is different for 2D projection, Laser3D projection and External 3D
projection. Therefore, the projector uncorrected white point has to be measured and entered for each
projection mode separately. Per projection mode one set of measured values are stored. Depending on the
projection mode, the corresponding set is used for white point correction.
In case of 3D projection, the xy coordinates of uncorrected white has to be measured twice. Once through the
left eye glass of the 3D goggles and once through the right eye glass.
Luminance balancing
In case of Laser3D projection, it is possible to correct difference in luminance between left and right. Scaling is
applied from the strongest eye towards the weakest eye. Note that this is not possible for External 3D
systems.
Required tools
Spectroradiometer.
Communicator.
White point calibration procedure:
1. Setup the ambient light conditions as it should be during the play out of the movie. (e.g. only the stairs and
emergency exit lighting is switched on).
Note: In an optimal setup less than 1% of light from any other source than the light from the projector
should illuminate the screen.
2. Set the projector in the desired projection mode 2D, Laser3D or External 3D. For detailed instructions see
user guide of the Communicator.
3. Configure the desired aspect ratio: e.g. FLATor SCOPE (use most common aspect ratio). Do this by activating
the correct LENS file. For detailed instructions see user guide of the Communicator.
4. Project a none calibrated full white test pattern. For detailed instructions see user guide of the
Communicator.
5. Measure the reflected light from the center of the screen with a spectroradiometer. Position the
spectroradiometer perpendicular to the screen in the auditorium sweet spot.
Caution: Do not measure the light through the port window of the boot area!
6. Adjust the light output of the projector slightly above the desired screen brightness. (screen brightness will
slightly drop after calibration). Use the Communicator software to achieve that. Go to Installation > Illumination
> Light output. For detailed instructions see user guide of the Communicator.
7. Sequentially measure and enter the xy coordinates of the three primary colors (red, green, blue) and full
white. Use therefor the Laser white calibration wizard in the Communicator. Go to Installation > Color
calibration > Laser white calibration. For detailed instructions see user guide of the Communicator.
Caution: Ensure that the correct projection mode is selected: 2D, Laser3D or External 3D.
Caution: In case of 3D measure the xy coordinates once through the left eye glass of the 3D goggles
and once through the right eye glass.
The wizard will reset previous xy values of power calibration and automatically start with projecting
uncorrected primary red. Once you have measured and entered the xy values for red, click on next and
Calibration
