4-10 Sending and Retrieving Studies to Virtua
International Name Queries
When entering Patient Names from the touch screen interface, only
U.S. ASCII characters can be entered via the touch screen keyboard.
However, international characters can be entered via a remote web
browser connected to Virtua, using the client computer’s native
character set and keyboard.
In addition, the question mark (?) character can be used as a
wildcard character that will match any character in any character
set, which can be useful for Latin-based character sets such as
French and German.
The simplest way to avoid the touch screen keyboard character set
limitations is to query via Patient ID or Accession Number.
Limited Query Results Set
The number of results returned for a given query is limited. Limiting
the number of results minimizes the chance that a large set of
matching patients or studies will tie up the DICOM Q/R SCP device
for an extended period of time.
For example, if all three search criteria fields are left blank, then the
subsequent query will match every study on the Q/R SCP device.
This could require a large amount of time and computing resources
on the Q/R SCP device processing the query.
Note that this limit could result in a partial result set being returned
for a legitimate query. If this is a concern, it is recommended that
the limit be increased, or that more specific queries be used to
minimize the chance of reaching this limit.
The default query result limit is set to 100 results. For information
about how to modify the result set limit, refer to “Setting Up
Query/Retrieve” on page 3-35.
