6. If you are shipping the computer, place it in the original
packing box or similar protective packaging, then label the
package “Fragile: Handle With Care.”
Traveling with the Computer
n Take along a backup of your information. Do not pack the
backup with the computer.
n Hand carry the computer. Do not check it with your
luggage.
n Do not expose the computer or diskettes to a magnetic
security detector.
n The security device that examines carry-ons placed on a
conveyer belt uses x-rays and is safe for the computer
and diskettes.
n The walk-through security device and the handheld
security wands are magnetic and may damage the
computer or diskettes.
n If you plan to use the computer during a flight, check in
advance with the airline: in-flight computer use is at the
discretion of the airline.
n If you expect to encounter climatic extremes, review the
"Operating Environment" section in Appendix D.
n If you are traveling internationally, consult with a Compaq
authorized dealer, reseller, or service provider about power
cord and adapter requirements for each location in which
you plan to use the computer. (Voltage, frequency, and
plug configurations vary.) To contact a Compaq
authorized dealer, reseller, or service provider near you,
refer to “Worldwide Telephone Numbers” in Appendix A.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock, fire, or
damage to the equipment, do not attempt to power the
computer with a voltage converter kit sold for appliances.
n If you are traveling internationally, consult with a Compaq
authorized dealer, reseller, or service provider about the
necessity of a country-specific modem adapter and where
you can purchase one.
n Check the computer-related Customs regulations for each
country on your itinerary.
