REDUNDANCY OPERATION
B.1 Introduction
Comtech๎ EF๎ Dataโs๎ Cโ,๎ Xโ,๎ and๎ KUโBand๎HighโPower๎ Outdoor๎ Power๎ Amplifiers๎ (HPODs)๎ can๎ be๎
used๎in๎redu ndant๎configuration๎by๎co nnecting๎the๎appropriate๎redundancy๎loop๎cable๎between๎
the๎user๎M&C๎location๎and๎each๎HPOD๎โJ4๎|๎REDUNDANT๎LOOPโ๎port.๎This๎1:1๎or๎1:2๎cable๎has๎
connector๎ pinouts๎ that๎ allow๎ the๎ HPODs๎ to๎ both๎ automati
cally๎ detect๎ the๎ type๎ of๎ cable๎ in๎ use๎
and,๎ when๎ properly๎ connected๎ between๎ the๎ user๎ and๎ the๎ redundancy๎ setup,๎ automatically๎
configure๎itself๎for๎operations๎in๎accordance๎with๎the๎labeling๎for๎each๎cable๎connector๎(SSPA๎1๎
or๎SSPA๎2๎for๎a๎1:1๎system,๎or๎SSPA๎1,๎SS
PA๎2,๎or๎SSPA๎BU๎for๎a๎1:2๎system).๎๎
B.1.1 1:1 Redundancy Mode
In๎1:1๎redundancy๎mode,๎the๎unit๎that๎is๎currently๎not๎the๎active๎unit๎(determined๎by๎the๎switch๎
position)๎will๎be๎the๎controlling๎Backup๎Unit๎(BU).๎

The๎ redundancy๎ systemโs๎ operating๎ mode๎ is๎ determined๎ by๎ using๎ the๎ โRAMโ๎ serial๎ remote๎

mode,๎ if๎ a๎ fault๎ is๎ detected๎ with๎ the๎ active๎ unit๎ โ๎ either๎ by๎ loss๎ of๎ communications๎
between๎the๎offline๎and๎online๎unit๎or๎via๎the๎summary๎fault๎โ๎the๎backup๎(offline)๎unit๎
will๎ switch๎ the๎ waveguide๎ switch๎ and๎ become๎ the๎ active(online)๎ unit๎ (assuming๎ the๎

p๎unit๎is๎not๎faulted).๎
