REDUNDANCY OPERATION
B.1 Introduction
Comtech EF Data’s C‐, X‐, and KU‐BandHigh‐Power Outdoor Power Amplifiers (HPODs) can be
usedinredu ndantconfigurationbyco nnectingtheappropriateredundancyloopcablebetween
theuserM&ClocationandeachHPOD‘J4|REDUNDANTLOOP’port.This1:1or1:2cablehas
connector pinouts that allow the HPODs to both automati
cally detect the type of cable in use
and, when properly connected between the user and the redundancy setup, automatically
configureitselfforoperationsinaccordancewiththelabelingforeachcableconnector(SSPA1
orSSPA2fora1:1system,orSSPA1,SS
PA2,orSSPABUfora1:2system).
B.1.1 1:1 Redundancy Mode
In1:1redundancymode,theunitthatiscurrentlynottheactiveunit(determinedbytheswitch
position)willbethecontrollingBackupUnit(BU).
The redundancy system’s operating mode is determined by using the “RAM” serial remote
command:
• If RAM=1 i set in both units, the system will be in “AUTO” redundan
cy mode. In this
mode, if a fault is detected with the active unit – either by loss of communications
betweentheofflineandonlineunitorviathesummaryfault–thebackup(offline)unit
will switch the waveguide switch and become the active(online) unit (assuming the
backu
punitisnotfaulted).
• IfRAM=0issetinbothunits, thesystemissetto“MANUAL”redundancymode,andno
switchoverswilloccuruponfaultdetection.
Switchpositionisdeterminedbyusingthe“SSW”serialremotecommand:
• SSW=1setstheswitchtoputSSPA1online;
• SSW=2setstheswitchtoputSSPA2online.
