3.1 Introduction

TOENSUREOPTIMALPERFORMANCE,ITISIMPORTANTTOOPERATETHEHPOD
WITHITSLATESTAVAILABLEFIRMWARE.

ComtechEFData’sHPODfamilyofHigh‐PowerOutdoorAmplifiersarefactory‐shippedwiththe
latest version of operating firmware. Firmware updates may be applied to an HPOD without
havingtoremoveitfromoperation.Ifafirmwareu
pdateisneeded,itcanbeacquired:

• BydownloadfromtheComtechEFDataWebsite(www.comtechefdata.com
);

• FromComtechEFDataCustomerSupportduringnormalbusinesshours,viae‐mailoron
CDbystandardmaildelivery.

TheHPODFirmwareUpdateprocessisasfollows:

• DownloadthefirmwareupdatearchivefileviatheInternettoauser‐suppliedMicrosoft
Windows
®
‐compatiblecomputer.

• Usetheappropriateadaptercableto connecttheHPODJ6|COM119‐pinporttoa9‐
pinserialportorEthernetportoftheuserPC.

• Extractthefirmwareupdatefilesfromthearchivedownloadfile,andthentransferthe
filesfromtheuserPCtoth
eHPODviaFileTransferProtocol(FTP):

o For serial‐based units, this is accomplished using the user terminal emulator
program configured for serial operation and the provided FLSHCSAT.exe utility
program.

o ForEthernet‐basedunits,this isaccomplished usingthe FTPprotocol andthe user
terminal emulator program configure
