15.21. Straps
Straps may be configured to connect the frame ground to the 120-ohm connector shield. The digital
interface may also be strapped to operate as V.35 or V.36/V.11. The signal ground and the frame ground
may be connected to the power supply cards. To cascade the external clocks, the 75 ohm terminator load
may be disconnected.
For location of straps and more information see chapter 10.
15.22. Other Important Topics
Aggregate cards, both optic and electric, may be inserted or removed while the equipment is operating (hot
swap). If the backup option is being used, errors in tributary data will be temporary.
The equipment may run by two redundant power supplies (main and backup). Power input may be run
from 93 to 250 Vac or 36 to 72 Vdc with automatic selection. The backup power unit is identical to the main
one and it is supplied separately.
The backup configuration may use automatic, semi-automatic or manual locking when there is a failure in
the main link. Aggregate backup is possible for ring, line, point to point and optic modem topologies.
The equipment may perform a series of tests to aid in failure detection or link checking. These also
indicate the error ratio in the aggregate.
