DM16E1 / DM4E1 Operation and Installation Manual - 204-4001-19 38
4. G.703 TRIBUTARY INTERFACES
The DM16E1 and DM4E1 have 16 and 4 E1 tributary interfaces, respectively. Connectors are located on
the rear panel.
The interfaces are fully independent, that is, they can carry signals of different origins, with different clock
references, with or without G.704 frame structure. Clock frequency at a remote port will be identical to that
of the corresponding local port.
4.1. General Interface Characteristics
The interface can be used via a 75-ohm coaxial cable with BNC or IEC169/13 (DIN47295 1.6/5.6)
connector or a 120-ohm twisted pair cable with RJ45 connector. Cables are connected via transformers.
There is no polarity for the twisted pair.
The DM16E1 is available with three types of rear panel: IEC connectors (standard), BNC connectors, or
RJ45 connectors.
The DM4E1 is available with two types of rear panel: IEC and RJ45 connectors (standard) or BNC and
RJ45 connectors.
Coaxial cable shields can be grounded via straps. See item 4.5 for more information.
The G.703 signal output is at the OUT connector (75 ohms) or between RJ45 pins 1 and 2 (120 ohms).
The G.703 signal input is at the IN connector (75 ohms) or between pins RJ45 4 and 5 (120 ohms).

4.2. Status Indicators for E1 Interfaces
Status indicator leds are located on the front panel (one for each interface). Absent input signal is indicated
by LOS. Continuous reception of a marker signal is indicated by AIS (Alarm Indication Signal).
Status LED Reviews
Interface disabled Off Disabled via configuration
LOS (loss of Rx signal) Quick flashing
Quick flashing, remaining off for approximately 1
second
AIS Quick flashing
Quick, regular flashing, approximately 10 times
per second
Normal functioning On
Also remains on during aggregate loopbacks,
with forced “synchronization OK” status
