8.6.1. SW Change from Bridge HW1 to Bridge HW2 or vice-versa
The different bridge cards (HW1 and HW2) need a specific firmware for their right functioning. The HW1
needs the version 22 (or upper), while the HW2 needs a version capable to support the packet
sequencing.
The firmware change is required to upgrade an equipment’s bridge from bridge HW1 to the HW2. The
same is valid if will be necessary to change a HW2 bridge for a HW1 due to the cards are not compatible
with the firmware of different versions.
For changing the firmware type in the equipment built with version 36 or (anterior), it will be necessary to
upgrade to the version 37 (or upper), allowing to change for a version compatible with the bridge HW2.
The direct upgrade is not enabled, because there are protection mechanisms in the equipment and, then,
the firmware will not be accepted.
Next steps demonstrate the required proceeds to change the firmware from bridge HW1 to bridge HW2.
• Remove the Bridge cards HW1 or E3 internal from the satellite slot.
• Install the Bridge card HW2.
• Download the firmware version 37 or upper.
• Download the firmware version 02 or upper, with ordainment.
Procedures for changing the software from bridge HW2 to bridge HW1:
• Remove the bridge card HW2 from the satellite slot.
• Download the firmware with version upper than the firmware 22.
8.6.2. Cards and topologies supported by version with ordainment
The equipment with operation over the software with ordainment can support the same aggregate of the
bridge HW1 version, besides the Bridge card HW2.
Cards non-supported:
• E3 internal card;
• Bridge card HW1.
The topologies below can map E3 internal for aggregate and they are invalid for the software with
ordainment:
• Transparent Optical Modem;
• Point-to-Point Optical Modem;
• Regular Ring Optical Modem;
• Cross Ring Optical Modem;
• ATM Optical Modem.
The incompatible cards are detected. It is possible to identify its type through the terminal or DmView.
It is required to turn off the computer before to insert or to remove the satellite card always.
An equipment built with a Bridge HW1 cannot be upgraded to a firmware with
ordainment, at least the
Bridge HW1 will be replaced with Bridge
HW2. This procedure was implemented to avoid an improper
upgrade may generate ma
nagement loss. It also avoids the remote management loss by an equipment
running over a version with ordainment and caused by a download of an incomplete version.
