DM16E1 / DM4E1 Operation and Installation Manual - 204-4001-19 75
9.3. WAN2 Port Physical Configurations
WAN2 may be directed either to the aggregate or to some of the local TDM interfaces of the equipment.
This selection will be carried out in the phase of specific configurations for WAN2.
In cases of operation directed to the aggregate, WAN2 always operates as a Point to Point link, which
should be selected at most in two locations within the ring (“R” indicates a WAN2). In this case, the
procedure is similar to the one shown in that last screen, with the exception that one of the devices should
necessarily be set to pass through (character “-“).
Note that WAN2 set to Frame Relay always works as an end element. Thus, direct communication (without
an intermediate UNI-Network element) between two DM4E1 / DM16E1 devices using Frame Relay is not
possible. The objective of this function is to allow Frame Relay access to cards only (UNI-User).
When WAN2 is used along with a local TDM tributary channel of the multiplexer, this tributary channel
should not be configured in the aggregate map for the same reason that WAN2 should not be used.
The screen where specific configurations of WAN2 are carried out is shown in figure below:
