14. SOFTWARE DOWNLOAD
14.1. How to Identify the Current Version of the Software
Refer to item 3.8 to identify the versions of your equipment. In case you need to install a more current
version of the software, follow the procedures below.
14.2. Download via TFTP
Multiplexers are constantly being upgraded and new features are always being added. Thus, it is
necessary that the firmware (microprocessor software) be modified so that it can incorporate new
functions. This can be easily made through the download of a new firmware.
In order to carry out the update, the user should obtain the file containing the new firmware. The file can be
obtained at the DATACOM site, www.datacom.ind.br.The file usually has the “.im” extension.
Once the file is located, follow the instructions below to download the software via TFTP.
Equipment manufactured by DATACOM and that support upgrades of firmware via TFTP (Trivial File
Transfer Protocol) can be simply upgraded via the binary transference of the new firmware. When
transference is complete, the multiplexer verifies the integrity of the file received. If the file is valid, the
equipment resets and upgrades the firmware automatically.
The multiplexer is provided with a TFTP server, so that the software used for transference should be a
TFTP client. In addition, the transfer should be binary, with packets of 512 bytes. Transference may be
either through the Ethernet link or through the PPP link (In Band).
There are several application programs that are able to perform TFTP-client tasks. However, below we will
explain the steps that are necessary in order to carry out the download using a well-known and
recommended freeware program: Pumpkin.
In case it is necessary for you to install this software on your PC, please download it from:
http://www.klever.net/kin/canned/PumpKIN.exe.
Run the PumpKIN.exe file and choose the installation directory.
Verify that the equipment is connected, via Ethernet or PPP, to the PC that will carry out the
transference process; the packets should be able to reach the equipment which will be upgraded, even if
that is made possible by means of routers, switches, hubs, etc.
After installation, execute and configure the software as explained below:
In the Options menu:
On tab Server, check options: “Prompt before giving file” and “Always prompt before accepting file”;
On tab Network:
Type 69 in fields “Listen for incoming requests on port:” and “Send outgoing requests to port:”;
Type 30 in field “Default connection timeout:”;
Type 512 in field “Default block size:”.
The power supply l
oss during a SW updating process may cause temporary ineffectiveness of the
equipment. Once it occurred, the download should be restarted.
