Care of the Printhead
Although purpose-built for its application, the printhead is still subject to wear and tear.
Printhead life varies considerably depending on the substrate materials being used and the
printhead darkness settings.
Markem-Imaje ink ribbon protects the printhead against wear however, when using ink ribbon
widths narrower than the printhead, it is possible that the unprotected section of the printhead is
subject to increased wear.
Consideration at the time of installation and regular preventative maintenance can signicantly
help to maximise printhead life.
To minimise printhead wear, always use the minimum air pressure and darkness setting that
delivers an acceptable print quality. Never exceed the maximum recommended air pressure.
Replacing the Printhead
Turn off the power to the controller and isolate the air supply to the printer body. Remove the
ribbon cassette.
Always ensure anti-static precautions are used when handling new printheads.
Removing the worn printhead (Combined Printer)

Push the printhead carriage forward towards
the side of the printer (right-hand printer shown)

Disconnect the ribbon cable from the printer
interconnect PCB.
