Due to the response time of the sensors and the gas sample flow rate, the stated
accuracy of O
2
, CO

, N
2
O and the anesthetic agents is limited by the respiratory
rate and by the inspiratory to expiratory ratio (I:E) as follows:
For O
2
measurements, accuracy is maintained up to a respiratory rate of 60
breaths/min. with an I/E ratio of 1:2.
For CO
2
measurements, accuracy is maintained up to a respiratory rate of 75
breaths/min. with an I/E ratio of 1:2.
For N
2
O measurements, accuracy is maintained up to a respiratory rate of 75
breaths/min. with an I/E ratio of 1:2.
For agent measurements, accuracy is maintained up to a respiratory rate of 60
breaths/min. with an I/E ratio of 1:2.
The effect of respiratory rate and I/E ratio settings on accuracy were determined in
a simulated breathing system using square wave gas concentration waveforms.
