Telephone Operating Instructions
To turn on the message waiting indicator at a selected telephone:
❖ Lift the handset.
❖ Dial the prime extension number of the target telephone.
❖ When you hear ringback tone or busy tone, press the MESSAGE SEND button.
The MESSAGE SEND button indicator changes to ATTENTION. On the target
telephone, the message waiting indicator lights.
❖ Hang up. The MESSAGE SEND button indicator changes to IDLE.
To cancel a message previously set at another extension:
❖ Lift the handset.
❖ Dial the extension number of the target telephone. You hear ringback tone or busy
tone and the MESSAGE SEND button indicator changes to ATTENTION.
❖ Press the MESSAGE SEND button. The MESSAGE SEND button indicator
changes to IDLE. The message waiting indication on the target telephone is
canceled.
❖ Hang up.
To cancel a message left by another station user:
❖ Lift the handset.
❖ When you hear system dial tone, dial the Message Send access code followed by

❖ When you hear system dial tone again, dial the telephone's prime extension
number. You hear confirmation tone. The message that has been waiting the
longest is canceled and the MESSAGE RETRIEVE button indicator changes to
IDLE if there are no other waiting messages.
To operate the telephone as a message center:
❖ Press the MESSAGE SEND button. The MESSAGE SEND button indicator
changes to BUSY. DES button indicators identify telephones with messages:
IDLE indicates no messages waiting, BUSY indicates a message waiting from
another telephone, ATTENTION indicates at least one message waiting from the
message center.
❖ To set a message waiting indication at a telephone, press the DES button for the
selected telephone. The DES button indicator changes to ATTENTION. On the
target telephone, the message waiting indicator lights.
❖ To cancel a message previously set at another extension, press the DES button
for the selected telephone. The DES button indicator changes to IDLE if there are
no other messages waiting. It changes to BUSY if there is one or more message
waiting from another telephone.
