Description
DTC stands for Diagnostic Trouble Code, and these are codes that can be set inside an ECU (electronic
control unit) in the vehicle if it has detected a fault (short circuit for instance).
This function is only enabled when the vehicle is standstill with engine off and Ignition On.
Compared to a simple OBD-reader, eSID3 reads all trouble codes in the entire vehicle.
The trouble codes state are either:
(P)reliminary or (C)onfirmed for Powertrain nodes or
(A)ctive or (H)istory for all other nodes.
‘Preliminary’ is set when a fault is found and if the fault is still present on the next following driving
cycles, then the code will be ‘Confirmed’ and the Engine malfunction indication lamp might lit up
(depends on the severity)
On non-emission related nodes this advanced diagnostic is not needed and they simply set either
‘History’ if there has been a fault but not anymore, or ‘Active’ if the fault is present at this time.
