CYLINDER HEAD/VALVES
DISASSEMBLY
Remove the following:
Cylinder head (page 10-16)
Spark plug (page 3-8)
Injector (page 7-20)
Camshaft (page 10-13)
Loosen the insulator band screws [1] and remove the
insulator [2].
Remove the valve spring cotters using the special tool
as shown.
To prevent loss of tension, do not compress the valve
springs more than necessary to remove the cotters.
Remove the following:
Spring retainer [1]
Valve spring [2]
Valve [3]
Stem seal [4]
Valve spring seat [5]
Mark all parts during disassembly so they can be
placed back in their original locations.
INSPECTION
CYLINDER HEAD
Remove carbon deposits from the combustion
chambers [1].
Avoid damaging the gasket surface.
Check the spark plug hole and valve areas for cracks.
