31. Select Install/Configure Devices Added After IPL and press Enter. Follow the instructions on the
screen. Successful replacement is indicated by the OK message displayed next to the Command field
at the top of the screen.
Do not use Install/Configure Devices Added After IPL if your system is set up to run HACMP
clustering. To determine the correct method to configure the replacement device, consult with your
system administrator or software support.
32. If you do not have other adapters to replace, continue with the next step.
OR
If you have other adapters to replace, press F3 to return to the PCI Hot-Swap Manager menu and
then return to step 16 on page 302.
33. Press F10 to exit the Hot-Swap Manager.
If you have added, removed, or replaced any adapters, run the diag -a command. If the system
responds with a menu or prompt, follow the instructions to complete the device configuration.
34. Reconnect the adapter cables at the rear of the system.
35. On a Model 6C3, route the cables through the cable-management arm.
36. Replace the service access cover as described in “Replacing the Model 6C3 Service Access Cover”
on page 288 or “Replacing the Model 6E3 Service Access Cover” on page 289.
37. Return the system to the operating position as described in “Returning the Model 6C3 to the
Operating Position” on page 285 or “Placing the Model 6E3 into the Service and Operating Position”
on page 286.
38. On a Model 6C3, close the rear rack door.
Installing a Hot-Pluggable PCI Adapter
Attention: The Linux operating system does not support these hot-pluggable procedures. Also, Linux
does not support hot-swapping any hot-pluggable PCI adapters. A system with Linux installed must be
shut down and powered off before installing any PCI adapter. Use the non-hot-pluggable adapter
procedures when replacing a PCI adapter with the Linux operating system installed.
Note:
This system supports PCI hot-pluggable adapters, so the system does not need to be shut down
and the power cables removed before adding or replacing an adapter.
To install an adapter, do the following:
1. Reconnect the adapter cables at the rear of the system.
2. Place the system into the service position as described in “Placing the Model 6C3 into the Service
Position” on page 284 or “Placing the Model 6E3 into the Service and Operating Position” on page
286.
3. On a Model 6C3, open the rear rack door.
4. Remove the service access cover as described in “Removing the Model 6C3 Service Access Cover”
on page 288 or “Removing the Model 6E3 Service Access Cover” on page 289.
5. Refer to the RS/6000 & pSeries PCI Adapter Placement Reference, order number SA38-0538, for
information regarding slot restrictions for adapters that can be used in this system, and for
adapter-placement information.
6. Before handling any card, board, or memory DIMM, refer to “Handling Static-Sensitive Devices” on
page 280.
7. Refer to “Accessing the PCI Hot-Swap Manager” on page 307, and follow the steps in the access
procedure to select PCI Hot Swap Manager. Then return here to continue.
8. From the PCI Hot-Swap Manager menu, select Add a PCI Hot-Swap Adapter and press Enter. The
Add a PCI Hot-Swap Adapter window opens.
9. Select the appropriate empty PCI slot from the ones listed on the screen, and press Enter.
