6 Accessing the System
This chapter describes servicing restrictions, opening the base unit, avoiding electrostatic discharge,
and closing the base unit.
Servicing Restrictions
Upgrading and servicing the system is restricted to qualified personnel. Heed all warnings and cautions
in servicing instructions. Personal injury and damage to equipment can occur if documented
procedures are not followed.
WARNING The system produces high-leakage current. When servicing or upgrading the base unit, flip the
circuit breaker to the Off position.
CAUTION Use an antistatic wrist strap for all servicing procedures to avoid the possibility of electrostatic
discharge.
Opening the Base Unit
CAUTION Shut the system down and turn the system power off. Use caution to avoid injury when removing
covers and other hardware. Ensure the front and side stabilizer feet are extended at all times.
CAUTION Ensure the board ejectors on both sides of the base unit are closed before extending the system out of
the rack.
To open the base unit:
1. Remove the screws from each corner of the front of the base unit.
2. If removing the back cover, remove the screws located on the top corners at the back of the base
unit. Refer to the following figure.
3. Pull the base unit until it locks in the extended position.
4. Remove the screws for the top cover shown in the following figure and lift up the cover.
5. To remove the back cover, slide it back then lift it up.
