SECTION 6 – UNIT WATER PIPING AND HOOK-UP
When the assembly of the unit is complete, and unit is
level, the absorber/condenser, chilled, and hot water
(if applicable) piping connections may be made.
As standard, the unit nozzles will be provided with
victaulic connections suitable for 150 PSIG design
wa ter pressure (DWP). Flanged connections for 150
or 300 PSIG DWP are provided only as an option at
time of order.
All unit piping must be installed in accordance with
ac cept ed piping practice and any applicable local pip-
ing codes. Provide adequate temperature and pressure
wells or taps on all supply and return piping.
All water piping must be adequately
supported and braced independent of
the chiller. No strain whatsever is to be
placed on the unit water boxes, nozzle,
and/or connection anges. Piping should
not spring when connections are broken
at unit.
The piping should be arranged with offsets for flex i-
bil i ty, and adequately supported and braced indepen-
dently of the unit to avoid strain on the unit and vibra-
tion trans mis sion. Hangers must allow for alignment
of pipe. Iso la tors (by others) in the piping are not nec-
es sary but may be desirable, and may be required by
customer spec i fi ca tions.
Upon completion of the unit piping, a connection in
each line as close to the unit as possible should be
opened by re mov ing the flange bolts or coupling and
check for pip ing alignment. If any of the bolts are
bound in their holes, or if the connection between
the pipes spring out of align ment, the pipe has excess
strain on it which could cause dam age to the unit. The
pip ing mis align ment must be cor rect ed by prop er ly
sup port ing the pip ing or by ap ply ing heat to anneal
the pipe.
If the piping is annealed to relieve stress,
the inside of the pipe must be cleaned of
scale before it is nally bolted in place.
