Remove rear access door mounting screw,
tilt
access door back and disconnect batterycon-
nector.
connect spark plug lead.
Close fuel shut-off valve. Remove fuel line and
drain excess fuel into a proper container.
Remove spring clip securing fuel/oil tank as-
sembly to mounting bracket.
Remove three screws securing fuel/oil tank
assembly and carefully position assembly on
top of engine shroud.
NOTE: Exercise care not to damage or dis-
connect oil line.
Disconnect red lead from starter housing as-
sembly.
Remove
two
screws securing electric starter
assembly and fuel tank bracket
to
crankcase.
Lower starter to disengage pin from crankcase.
Remove electric starter assembly from mower.
DISASSEMBLY
Slide pinion, spring and clutch assembly
from pin.
Remove retaining ring from clutch assem-
bly.
Remove stop washer, pinion spring, pinion and
drag spring from helix of clutch assembly.
Remove drag spring from pinion.
Examine all parts for excessive wear or dam-
age. Replace parts as necessary.
Remove
two
screws and drag spring stud
securing gear cover plate to motor housing.
NOTE: Plate has
OUT
stamped on the top
side. During installation
OUT
side must be
installed facing clutch assembly.
