2.Whenyoureplacethesystemboard,youmusteitherupdatetheserverwiththelatestfirmwareor
restorethepre-existingfirmwarethatthecustomerprovidesonadisketteorCDimage.Makesurethat
youhavethelatestfirmwareoracopyofthepre-existingfirmwarebeforeyouproceed.
3.Whenyoureplacethesystemboard,makesurethatyouremovetheIntegratedManagementModuleII
(IMM2)AdvancedUpgradeandplaceitonthenewsystemboard.ForinformationabouttheAdvanced
Upgrade,see“Usingtheremotepresenceandblue-screencapturefeatures”onpage115.
Note:YouhavetoreactivatetheFeaturesonDemand(FoD)afterreplacingthesystemboard.
Readthesafetyinformationin“Safety”onpagevand“Installationguidelines”onpage35.
Ifyouarereplacingaservercomponentintheserver,youneedtoturnofftheserverandperipheraldevices,
anddisconnectthepowercordsandallexternalcables.
Note:Whenyoureplacethesystemboard,youmusteitherupdatetheserverwiththelatestfirmwareor
restorethepre-existingfirmwarethatthecustomerprovidesonadisketteorCDimage.Makesurethatyou
havethelatestfirmwareoracopyofthepre-existingfirmwarebeforeyouproceed.
Toremovethesystemboard,completethefollowingsteps.
Step1.Carefullyturntheserveronitssidesothatitislyingflat,withthecoverfacingup.
Attention:Donotallowtheservertofallover.
Step2.Unlockandremovetheleft-sidecover(see“Removingtheleft-sidecover”onpage184).
Step3.Removetheairbaffle(see“Removingtheairbaffle”onpage189).
Step4.Removethefancageassembly(see“Removingthefancageassembly”onpage272).
Step5.Notewherethecablesareconnectedtothesystemboard;then,disconnectthem.
Attention:Disengagealllatches,releasetabsorlocksoncableconnectorswhenyoudisconnect
allcablesfromthesystemboard(see“Internalcableroutingandconnectors”onpage312).
Failingtoreleasethembeforeremovingthecableswilldamagethecablesocketsonthesystem
board.Thecablesocketsonthesystemboardarefragile.Anydamagetothecablesocketsmay
requirereplacingthesystemboard.
Step6.Removeanyofthefollowingcomponentsthatareinstalledonthesystemboardandputthemina
safe,static-protectiveplace:
Adapters(see“Removinganadapter”onpage213)
DIMMs(see“Removingamemorymodule”onpage261)
Microprocessorsandheatsinks(see“Removingamicroprocessorandheatsink”onpage283)
Notes:
1.Removethesocketcoversfromthemicroprocessorsocketsonthenewsystemboardand
placethemonthemicroprocessorsocketsofthesystemboardyouareremoving.
2.Donotallowthethermalgreasetocomeincontactwithanything,andkeepeachheat
sinkpairedwithitsmicroprocessorforreinstallation.Contactwithanysurfacecan
compromisethethermalgreaseandthemicroprocessorsocket.Amismatchbetweenthe
microprocessoranditsoriginalheatsinkcanrequiretheinstallationofanewheatsink.
