Thehot-swapservermodelssupportuptotwelve2.5-inchorfour3.5-inchhot-swapSASorSATA
harddiskdrives.
Theelectromagneticinterference(EMI)integrityandcoolingoftheserverareprotectedbyhavingallbays
andPCIandPCIExpressslotscoveredoroccupied.Whenyouinstalladrive,PCI,orPCIExpress
adapter,savetheEMCshieldandfillerpanelfromthebayorPCIorPCIExpressadapterslotcoverinthe
eventthatyoulaterremovethedevice.

Toinstallahot-swapSASorSATAharddiskdrive,completethefollowingsteps:
Note:Ifyouhaveonlyoneharddiskdrive,youmustinstallitinthebay0(upper-left).
Step1.Readthesafetyinformationthatbeginson“Safety”onpagevand“Installationguidelines”on
page116
.
Step2.Removethefillerpanelfromtheemptydrivebay.Keepthefillerpanelinasafeplace.
Step3.Touchthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainsthedrivetoanyunpaintedmetalsurfaceonthe
server;then,removethedrivefromthepackageandplaceitonastatic-protectivesurface.
Step4.Installtheharddiskdriveinthedrivebay:
a.Makesurethatthetrayhandleisintheopen(unlocked)position.
b.Alignthedrivewiththeguiderailsinthebay.

Step5.Ifyouareinstallingadditionalhot-swapharddiskdrives,dosonow.
