Power states: On, off, InstantGo, and hibernation
Here’s a quick overview of the Surface Pro 3 power states:
State What to do
On or wake
Press and release the power button on your Surface.
(If nothing happens, connect the power supply and press the power button
again. If your Surface still doesn’t turn on, see Surface Pro won’t turn on, on
Surface.com.)
Off or shut down Do either of the following:
•
On the Start screen, tap or click Power > Shut down.
•
Open the Settings charm, tap or click Power > S hut down.
InstantGo Do any of the following:
•
Press and release the power button on your Surface.
•
Don’t use Surface for a few minutes.
•
Open the Settings charm, tap or click Power > S leep.
•
Close your Type Cover for Surface Pro 3.
(Only Type Cover for Surface Pro 3 puts it into this state. If you’re using
an earlier Typing Cover, use one of the other methods above.)
Restart Do either of the following:
•
On the Start screen, tap or click Power > Restart.
•
Open the Settings charm, tap or click Power > Restart.
