6.1.4 Air Flow Button
When the Air Flow button is pressed, the user is taken to the Airflow Monitoring screen. This screen features the current
air flow operation, airflow alert, the Last Certified Level and date, and the ability to set the alerting level for airflow for
the laboratory.
The Airflow monitoring should be set up when the grossing station is first installed or relocated. It is also recommended
to verify periodically or put on a preventive maintenance schedule. To set up the Airflow Monitoring system have the
ventilation ON and pulling air at the labs acceptable CFM rate. Reference section 9.4 for recommended airflow rates.
Once the acceptable flow rate is achieved the Lab manager is to record the measured CFM ventilation value by pressing
RECORD and inputting that value. The last certified date and time will change confirming the setting was recorded in the
PLC. If the lab chooses to set an alert for reduced airflow the lab manager can press the SET ALERT button which will
take you to a screen indicating the level of airflow at which you want to be notified. A 10% reduction in air flow is a
standard recommendation. The lab manager may choose to change this to any percent deemed necessary for their
alarm notification. Pressing submit will save the indicated percent and set the alarming flow value to the given
percentage less than the acceptable RECORD value. Units with the recirculation option will notice there is no RECORD
button, in which you will turn ON the recirculation fans to a deemed acceptable fan speed and then press SET ALERT,
and then indicate an alert value. This will save the indicated fan speed and set the alarm setting automatically in one
step.
A flow sensor is a standard feature on all units. The flow sensor is integrated into the units hood to provide a method to
alarm if airflow in the facility has been impeded or adjusted below a set threshold. This setting is only intended to
provide an alert. Most Grossing stations are tested and calibrated for air flow by a local HVAC provider annually. This is
a perfect time to adjust the Flow sensor setting against a RECORD setpoint.
