7 MAINTENANCE
7.1 How to Maintain the Product
7.1.1 Changing Filters - Recirculating equipped units only (MB1009 option)
• Filter change frequency is based on laboratory HVAC settings and Formalin fume exposure and therefore
variable in life. Even without use, once a filter has been installed it should be changed at least once per year.
Failure to replace filters increases the risk that your recirculating unit will not provide appropriate protection
from hazardous materials.
• To change the filters in your station, you will need to remove the thumb screws that hold the door closed.
• The filter door will now be opened upward. It is hinged at the top and can be lifted upward to provide
access to the replaceable filters.
• Replacement Potassium Permanganate Filters (Ref Section 10).
Use latex or nitrile gloves when removing the filters. All replacement filters will use a Mopec
Potassium Permanganate Filter inside the filter carrier near the grill.
• Install the new filters with the white side down and black mesh up top. New filters will slide in the filter
carrier just the same way the filters came out.
• Close the filter door and tighten the thumb screws.
• After a filter change the station should be checked that the ventilation isn’t impeded. A reduction in flow
indicates an improper filter installation and the steps above will require repeating.
7.1.2 Checking Potassium Permanganate (KMnO4) Filters
Filter life is dependent on the amount and concentration of formalin fumes passing through it. This section describes
how to check a filter so that a proper filter life can be predicted and planned in a lab.
