Location Data
A GPS unit can be connected to the ten-pin remote terminal,
allowing the current latitude, longitude, altitude, Coordinated
Universal Time (UTC), and heading to be recorded with each
photograph taken.
The camera can be used with optional GP-1
and GP-1A GPS units (see below; note that these units do not
provide the compass heading), or with compatible third-party
units connected via an optional MC-35 GPS adapter cord (0 428).
❚❚ GP-1/GP-1A GPS Units
These optional GPS units are designed for use with Nikon digital
cameras.
For information on connecting the unit, see the manual
provided with the device.
A The o Icon
Connection status is shown by the o icon in the
information display:
o (static): Location data acquired.
o (flashing): The GPS device is searching for a
signal.
Pictures taken while the icon is
flashing do not include location data.
No icon: No new location data have been
received from the GPS device for at least two seconds.
Pictures taken
when the o icon is not displayed do not include location data.
A Heading
The heading is only recorded if the GPS device is
equipped with a digital compass (note that the
GP-1 and GP-1A are not equipped with a
compass).
Keep the GPS device pointing in the
same direction as the lens and at least 20 cm
(8 in.) from the camera.
A Coordinated Universal Time (UTC)
UTC data is provided by the GPS device and is independent of the
camera clock.
