Chapter 3 - How to...
4.
Select the options for the images being captured.
5.
Attach the 35mm sized eye piece. You may have to swap eye pieces to improve patient alignment.
3.2.3 How to align the patient
Initial patient alignment is the same for all image capture procedures.
1.
Ask the patient to sit up straight in front of the device.
2.
Stand to the side of the patient where you can reach the touch screen, the table height switch, and
from where you can monitor the position of the patient's face.
3.
Adjust the table or seat height so that the patient's eyes are slightly above the eye piece.
4.
Ask the patient to:
a.
Hold the grips on the side of the device.
b. Follow the fixation target as they move in close to the device. Refer to the Patient Alignment
Guide on page63.
c.
Rest their forehead on the top of the face pad.
d.
Turn their head slightly so that their nose is on the outside of the face pad. You should check
that the patient's head is vertical and has not been tilted.
5.
After they are comfortable, ask the patient to move to the correct alignment position. The alignment
colors seen by the patient are also shown on the touch screen.
6.
Adjust the alignment. The alignment target will change to green when the scan head is the correct
distance from the patient's eye. If the target turns red the scan head is too close. If the target turns
blue the scan head is too far away.
l When aligning the patient the center of the cross hairs should be close to the center of the
pupil as possible.
l In some instances you may choose to capture an image when the patient is aligned to the
blue or red target. If the patient has an IOL
1
or small pupils you may choose to capture when
the target is red. If the patient has very large pupils you may choose to capture when the
target is blue.
7.
The x, y, and z alignment co-ordinates are shown. Ideally these should be as near to zero as practical,
depending on the patient being imaged.
8.
