Problems that are NOT caused by the OPC drum
Drums should NOT be replaced to resolve the problems described in the table below.
Symptom Cause Solution RTB
a) SC396~
SC399
z Most of these SCs are caused by
drum motor lock as a result of stuck
waste toner in the development gap
between the development roller and
OPC drum, which occurs when the
drum rotation suddenly stops in an
abnormal state.
z Power cycle the
machine a few times.
z Manually turn the
development roller
with your hands to
remove stuck waste
toner.

b) Uneven
density
randomly
z Change in the charge applied to the
toner affects the development
capacity and transferability. Possible
causing factors are: low PV per job,
high ratio of text, high usage rate of
finishing options, high ratio of B/W
print jobs, which apply stress to the
color toners.
z Enable ACS to
prevent idling of CMY
units.
z Increase the amount
of toner exhausted in
the toner refresh
mode.

c) Vertical
streaks
z If the streaks do not appear at
314mm intervals (= drum
circumference), the problem is
caused by either of the following:
¾ Dirty charge unit caused by toner
scattering
¾ Change in charge level caused by
unevenly lubricated drum surface
z Replace with new
toner.
z Remove toner
clumps.
z Positively replace
parts at the
prescribed PM yield.

d) Horizontal
bands
z If the streaks do not appear at
314mm intervals (= drum
circumference), the bands should be
considered as “shock-jitter/banding”.
z Do troubleshooting
procedures for
“shock-
jitter/banding”.

e) Dirty
printout
z Low toner fluidity causes
contamination inside the machine
results in the following:
¾ Toner scattering around the
development unit
¾ Degradation of waste toner collection
in the ITB unit
z Replace with new
toner.
z Remove toner
clumps

New toner bottle
contains new
toner from
certain Lot Nos.
f) Dirty
backgroun
d
z Low toner fluidity in the development
unit disables the sensor to properly
detect the amount of toner in the
unit. As a result, the sensor detects
extremely high toner concentration.
z Replace with new
toner.
z Remove toner
clumps.
