Alwaysensuretheretheareaiswellventilated.Ensure
thechargingbatteryhasadequatespaceanddoesnot
‘over-heat'.
DONOTsmokeinthevicinityofachargingbattery,
andensuresparksandnakedlightsarekeptwellaway
fromtheenginecompartment.
Beforecharging,connectthepositivecableatrst.
Aftercharging,disconnectthenegativecableatrst.

Note:Whenchargingoremergencystartingalways
ensurethenegativeleadhasagoodconnectiontoa
bodyearthawayfromthebattery(referstothesection
‘EmergencyStarting’inthe‘EmergencyInformation’
Chapter).
Ifchargingthebatterywhilstonthevehicle,please
connectthebatterychargernegativeleadtothevehicle
bodyensuringagoodconnection.
Ensureallterminalsarefreefromcorrosion.
Onlysuitablebatterychargerscanbeused-please
consultanMGAuthorisedRepairerfordetails.
Duringthechargingprocessthebatterytemperature
MUSTNOTexceed40ºC.
DONOTattempttochargeabatteryattemperatures
below0ºC.
BatteryMaintenance
DONOTleaveelectriccomponentsswitched
onwhentheengineisnotrunning,the
batterymaybecomeatandyouwillnotbe
abletostarttheengine.
Thebatteryisdesignedtobemaintenancefree,so
topping-upisunnecessary.
Note:Ifthevehicleisstoredformorethan1month,
removetheearthleadfromthebattery.Makesure
thattheignitionswitchhasbeenturnedoffbefore
connectingordisconnectingtheearthlead.When
connectingtheearthleadagain,thevehiclemustbe
leftinalockedstatefor4hourstore-calibratethe
batterycondition.Failuretoadheretothiswillinhibit
thestop/startfunctionality.
