Chapter 4 Fault diagnosis
SMSO-2-02.04- 15.07.03 107
Grinder malfunction
System / component Possible cause Remedy
Mechanical faults
Bean container empty fill up (if it is not empty: check the
“grinder empty” message; see “Func-
tional description, grinder”)
Coffee congestion (choke-up) in the
bean container, grease content of coffee
is too high
clean
use a different type of coffee
Grinder blades jammed clean or replace grinder blades (see
“Maintenance, dismantle/replace grinder
blades”)
Ejector jammed Clean grinder (see “Maintenance, dis-
mantle grinder”)
Foreign bodies in the grinder (check the
condition of the grinder blades)
Clean or replace the grinder
Electrical faults
Power PCB
Fuses F1 or F3 defective
Power PCB defective
replace
replace (see “control system diagram,
Power PCB”)
Defect in cabling or in grinder motor
Direction of rotation is incorrect
Repair or replace (see “control system
diagram, left-hand/right-hand grinder)
Programming
Incorrect programming (.e.g. no grinder
programmed)
Correct the programming (see pro-
gramming instructions)
Unit control system defective or only Flash ROM defective replace (see “Maintenance, unit control
system”)
Load machine data (counter and set-
tings) to new unit control system
Incorrect grinding quantity
System / component Possible cause Remedy
Mechanical faults
Coffee beans too soft, too damp or old Empty the bean container, connection
piece and grinder
Fill with fresh coffee
Grinding degree too fine (outlet time too
long, brewing pressure too high)
Adjust grinding degree (see “Mainte-
nance, Setting the Grinding Degree”)
Grinding blades worn; therefore grinding
quantity too low
Replace grinder blades (see “Mainte-
nance, dismantle/replace grinder
blades”)
Powder outlet clogged or defective (wire
broken)
clean or replace (see “Maintenance,
dismantle/replace powder outlet”)
Dampness in the bean container/grinder
module
Empty the bean container, bean nozzles
and grinder
Clean and thoroughly dry the module
Fill with fresh coffee
Electrical faults
Power PCB
Voltage fluctuations
Install stabilising circuit (optional feature)
Defect in cabling or in grinder motor Repair or replace (see “control system
diagram, left-hand/right-hand grinder)
Programming
Incorrect programming
(e.g. duration of grinding operation)
Correct the programming (see pro-
gramming instructions)
Unit control system uneven grinding times replace (see “Maintenance, unit control
system”)
Load machine data (counter and set-
tings) to new unit control system
