Chapter 4 Fault diagnosis
122 SMSO-2-02.04- 15.07.03
No milk/milk foam serving possible
(the milk foam contains only large bubbles…)
System / component Possible cause Remedy
Refrigerator
Milk container
No milk in container fill with milk
The milk is frozen inside the container,
the control thermostat is badly adjusted
or at the wrong setting
Milk is too warm (often the case during
the topping up operation)
Set the control thermostat to the correct
setting (approx. 1/3 power, refrigerator
temperature approx 2
o
C – 5
o
C);
see user manual)
Pinch valve
The pinch valve is mechanically blocked
and is continuously squeezing the suc-
tion hoses
Dismantle the pinch valve and the water
cylinder if necessary, clean it and re-
place the O ring on the piston. Grease
the piston and the O-ring lightly with
grease for food applications, and then
reassemble. Check the piston for easy
action; install the water cylinder and the
pinch valve.
Valve to squeeze cylinder dirty or defective
Defect in the valve cabling
clean / replace
check and/or replace (see “control sys-
tem diagram, refrigerator, solenoid valve
for squeeze cylinder” and spare parts
catalogue)
Solenoid valve discharge tube is
clogged
check and clean/replace
Ventilation valve
Seal bridge is dirty; system is drawing in
air that it should not
clean or replace
The hinge pin on the seal bridge lever
has slipped out and is jammed; the seal
bridge no longer closes fully.
Install longer pins (cylindrical pin dia.
4 x 16 mm)
The O ring on the non-return valve for
the milk/milk foam pipe rinse operation is
not water-tight / faulty
replace (see spare parts catalogue)
The hose sockets on the suction hoses
are not water-tight / defective
replace (see spare parts catalogue)
Air valve for milk foam
The baffle in front of the air valve is not
installed
Insert a suitable baffle (see spare parts
catalogue)
Foamer head
(Cappucinatore)
Hose system not water-tight Check the hose connections and the
hoses themselves, replace defective O-
rings, hose sockets or hoses.
Hose system dirty, automatic rinse op-
eration not programmed
Correct the programming (see pro-
gramming instructions)
clean / replace the hose
Foamer head has lost its seal (O-ring
faulty)
replace
Steam system
Valve battery
Steam valves on valve battery clogged/
defective
Cabling for valves on valve battery is
defective
clean/replace (repair kit, see “mainte-
nance, repair valve battery”
Carry out checks (see “control system
diagram, outlet valve steam, milk” and
“Outlet valve steam, milk foam)
Hoses Hose connections between outlet valves
and foamer head dirty or defective
clean /replace (see spare parts cata-
logue); please note: the hose colours
and quality of the cable holders)
Steam generator No steam in steam generator or steam
pressure too low
Carry out checks (see “control system
diagram, steam generator, 3 kW”)
Milk products programming Steam outlet not programmed for milk
products (warning sound: “pips”, no
other error message)
Correct the programming (see pro-
gramming instructions)
