Maintenance
Most frequent faults
Calcium deposits: long heating time
brewing temperature too low (white foam) or tea water
temperature too low (setting)
Check
In principle, the degree of calcification on an instant
heater can only be established by making a visual check.
In order to do this the instant heater must be dismantled
and emptied of water.
The visual inspection should take place as follows: Use
an intense beam of light (e.g. a Maglite torch or similar)
and shine it through a connection (hot water connection)
to provide as much illumination as possible. It is possible
to see the heating coil through the temperature sensor
connectors and the feed pipe. The calcium deposits can
be assessed as follows:
What can be seen Decision:
Light calcium deposits
(thickness of layer approxi-
mately 0.5 mm) on the hea-
ting spiral (figure 1).
Can continue to be used:
re-install.
Calcium deposits approxi-
mately 2-3 mm thick on the
base underneath the hea-
ting spiral, with uneven
deposits of calcium (figure
2).
Can continue to be used:
re-install.
Massive deposits of calcium
(pillars of calcium etc.) on
the heating spiral or a cove-
ring of loose chalky sub-
stance on the base.
(figures 3 and 4)
Replace.
Calcium covering (even if
only partial) above the hea-
ting spiral.
Replace.
Test the resistance of the heating spiral with an
ohmmeter.
Use water to rinse out any loose calcium from the instant
heater, otherwise calcium particles will be carried through
with the hot water and will clog valves etc. (see “Safety
regulations”).
Service intervals
After every 45,000 coffee servings or after 12 months of op-
eration check the following:
(All checks must be entered into the inspection report).
Water tightness: Traces of calcium at the welded seam or
at the connections to the heater.
Calcified on the interior: heavy calcium deposits on the
heating spirals
Check the supply pipe, especially the four holes on the
side, for seal and for calcium deposits.
After 36 months of operation, replace:
The complete instant heater (production date to 12.2000)
After 60 months of operation, replace:
The complete instant heater (production date starting
01.2001)
