Section 1
Introduction and Overview
Overview
The SEL-3031 is a 900-MHz, license-free, spread-spectrum radio. The radio operates
in the ITU Region 2 ISM band of 902–928 MHz through the use of a fast frequency-
hopping algorithm for noise immunity and long-distance operation.
The SEL-3031 prevents the need for multiple sets of radios or expensive dedicated
fiber transmitting over long distances. Figure 1.1 shows the flexibility of the SEL-3031
in providing DNP3 SCADA information, M

Figure 1.2 shows the flexibility obtained when using the SEL-3031 in point-to-
multipoint (P2MP) applications providing DNP3 or Modbus SCADA information from
many remotes to one master.
