3.2.2 Lamp power supply circuits
The deuterium lamp (D2 lamp) is controlled via a fixed current circuit to provide
a stable light source that is not affected by power fluctuations. In addition, this
circuit has a fixed discharge current for automatically turning on the lamp. A
high voltage is applied and the filament is heated until the lamp is illuminated. If
the lamp does not turn on after several attempts, an “ERR D2 LAMP” message is
displayed. If the lamp turns on normally, “D2” will appear in the lower left part of
the initial display screen. The tungsten lamp (W lamp) is turned on and
stabilized via a fixed voltage supply. The display indicates when the W lamp is on
as well. Unlike models SPD-10AVvp and SPD-10AV, model SPD-20AV allows
both the D2 and W lamps to be illuminated simultaneously. (As noted above, the
position of mirror M1 switches according to the wavelength setting, so only the
light from one of the lamps will enter the cells. Furthermore, the cooling fans for
the lamp housings will turn on after the lamps have been on for thirty minutes.)
