â–  If the duct-side flange with pipe is not sealed by the angle flange:
‡ Seal the duct-side flange with pipe using a suitable protective cover to prevent gas or
dust from escaping from the duct.
If the system is equipped with a purge-air supply, the supply can now be switched off. It can
often be useful, however, to leave the purge-air supply running (see also following warning).
For more information on switching off the purge-air unit, see Chapter 8.3 „Maintenance ac-
tivities on the purge-air unit“.
ATTENTION
High temperatures
If the measurement gas duct is operated at high temperatures, the measuring probe will
remain hot for a long time after it has been removed. For this reason, it should be handled
with care. You can cool the GMP probes more quickly by leaving the purge-air supply
switched on temporarily.
8.2.2 Visual inspection and cleaning the housing
‡ Check the measuring probe for corrosion, damage, and any signs of condensate or dirt
deposits. If the probe is damaged or shows excessive condensate buildup, contact the
Service department at SICK MAIHAK GmbH or your local sales representative.
‡ Check whether the sealing ring between the SR unit and the measuring probe (see Fig.
36) is sitting correctly and or brittle, and replace it if necessary.
‡ Check the housing of the SR unit for damage, such as cracks.
‡ If you are using a weatherproof cover, check its condition and whether the securing pins
on the top of the SR unit are secure. If necessary, apply new epoxy resin adhesive.
‡ Clean the sight on the right of the SR unit.
‡ If necessary, clean the entire housing of the SR unit.
‡ Check the cables for damage. Check for any signs of abrasion or bending at cable entries
and provide protective measures if necessary. The preassembled cables are available as
spare parts; if necessary contact the Service department at SICK MAIHAK GmbH.
8.2.3 Cleaning the optical boundary surfaces
‡ Check the optical boundary surface on the SR unit (front window is shown in Fig. 37,) for
contamination and clean it if necessary using an optics cloth. Never use detergent, since
any residue (even though it may be invisible) could falsify the measurement result. The
cleaning cloths, however, can be moistened using distilled water if necessary.
Suitable cleaning cloths are available as consumables (see Pagepage 117).
‡ Close the housing of the SR unit again and seal the connection to the flange attachment
using the four quick-release locks to protect the cleaned optical boundary surface from
humidity and dust.
â–  If a purge-air supply is used (GMP probe):
‡ Continue maintaining the purge-air unit (Chapter 8.3).
â–  GM35 measuring systems without purge-air supply (GPP measuring probe):
‡ Continue with Chapter 8.4.
■ Bei GM35-Messsystemen ohne Spülluftversorgung (GPP-Messlanze):
‡ Fahren Sie mit Kapitel 8.4 fort.
