7.2.3 Gear unit with oilsupply system – Prelubrication phase
• Prior to startup, the gear unit should be prelubricated for maximally 3 minutes by means of the
oilsupply system.
During this time, rolling bearings and gear teeth will be adequately supplied with oil for startup.
Note
The prelubrication phase must not take longer than 3 minutes since there will be heavy foaming of the
oil at low temperatures. If the oil temperature is below 10 °C the oil should be preheated applying suitable
measures, or Siemens should be consulted.
Be sure to observe the operating instructions of the oilsupply system for operation and maintenance.
7.2.3.1 Initial operation
• Observe all required instructions.
• Start operation of the gear unit.
A noload run of the gear unit should be limited to a minimum time. During idling time, the following points
have to be observed:
─ Oil level
After the first run the oil level will fall. As the gear unit continues to heat up, the oil level will rise to the
level of the mark showing the operatingoil level.
If the gear unit does not heat up with too low load, the coolingwater supply should be reduced. This
will reduce foaming of the oil.
─ Oil leakage
Check the screw connections for oil leakage and, if necessary, reseal.
7.2.4 Gear unit with backstop
WARNING
Risk of injury through moving plant parts
After having stopped the motor, there is a danger that the load is not safely held in its position and can
run in reverse direction at high speed.
The slipping torque was set at the correct value at the works; it must not be changed.
Note
Observe details in item 5.7, "Backstop".
