TROUBLESHOOTING
2 SHORT BEEPS (WH EN E NGIN E I S STARTED) THEN ENG INE
STOP S.
1. Engine s to ps auto m at ic ally aft er four minutes of idling (with-
ou t de pre s sin g the throttle ha nd le) and engin e tempe rature
higher than 85°C (185°F) .
– Depressing throt tle lever within four minutes will r eset timer
to fou r minutes .
ENGINE IS CRANKED BUT FAILS TO S TART.
1. Ig nition sw itc h or e ngine cut -out switc h in OFF p osition or
tether cord c ap away from po st.
– Place engine cut-out switch in t he ON position and install teth-
er cord cap on post.
2. Mixture not rich e nough t o sta rt cold e ngine .
– Check fuel tank level and check starting procedure, part icular-
ly use of t he choke.
3. Flooded engine (sp ark plug wet when removed).
– Do not choke. Remove wet spark plug, turn ignition switch
to OFF and crank engine several times. Install clean dry spark
plug.
– Start engine following usual starting procedure. If engine con-
tinues to flood, see an authorized S KI-DOO dealer.
4. No fue l to the en gin e (spark p lug dry w he n rem ov ed ).
– Check fuel tank level; turn fuel valve on if applicable; check
fuel filter; replace if clogged; check condition of fuel and im-
pulse lines and their connections. A failure of the fuel pump
or car buretor has occurred. Contact an authorized SKI-DOO
dealer.
5. Spark plug/ignition (no s park).
– Remove spark p lu g(s) then reconnect to spark cap. Check
th at en gi ne cut-o ut switch is at the ON po sition a nd th e tether
cut-out cord cap is snapped over the receptacle.
– Start engine with spark plug(s) grounded to engine away from
spark plug hole. If no spark appears, rep lace spark plug. If
tro uble pers is ts, conta ct an a uthori zed SKI-DOO deale r.
6. Engine compres sion.
– As the engine is pulled over with the rewind starter, “cycle s”
of resistance should be felt as piston goes past top dead cen-
ter (each piston on multi-cylin der engines).
– If no pulsating res istance is felt, it suggests a major lo ss of
compre ssion. C ontact an authorized SKI-DOO dealer.
