3.4.14.3 LUBRICANTS
ENGINE WITH INTEGRATED REDUCTION GEAR
According to the ROTAX Operation Manual the following oil specication should be met:
• Use only oil with API classication SG or higher!
•
Due to the high stresses in the reduction gears, oils with gear additives such as high
performance motor cycle oils are recommended.
• Heavy duty 4-stroke motor cycle oils meet all the requirements. These oils are usually not
mineral oils but semi- or full synthetic oils.
•
Oils primarily for Diesel engines have insucient high temperature properties and additives
which favor clutch slipping, and are generally unsuitable.

revision).

(minimum 0.53 US gal / 0.44 Imp gal / 2 l)
Oil consumption max. 0.026 US gal/h / 0.022 Imp gal/h / 0.1 l/h
CAUTION
The reduction gear additives, specied “GL4” or “GL5”, are required for a safe lubrication of the
integrated reduction gear. Never use other oil additives!
CAUTION
A full synthetic oil in combination with AVGAS results in abnormally high abrasion and/or residues.
During utilization of AVGAS, only semi-synthetic oils should be used.
NOTICE
Full- or semi-synthetic oils are to be preferred because of the temperature stability and less
residue formation.
