ENGINE 3-15
PISTON PIN AND PIN BORE
Measure the piston pin bore inside diameter using the caliper
gauge and measure the piston pin outside diameter using the
micrometer. If either is out of specification or the different between
these two measurements is more than the limits, replace both
the piston and piston pin.

PISTON RINGS
Use vernier calipers to measure the piston ring free end gap.
Next, fit the piston ring squarely into the cylinder and measure
the piston ring end gap with a thickness gauge.
If any of the measurements exceed the service limit, replace the
piston ring with a new one.

Install the piston ring into the piston ring groove. Insert the thick-
ness gauge under the piston ring and measure the piston ring
side clearance.
If any of the measurements exceed the service limit, replace both
the piston and piston rings.
