Unit Description
General Description
The Thermo King RD-MT is a diesel-powered,
multi-temperature cooling/heating system
designed to control temperature in separate cargo
compartments. The truck is divided into two cargo
compartments. Each compartment contains one or
two remote evaporator units. The condensing unit,
mounted on the front of the cargo compartment,
contains the diesel engine, compressor and
condenser.
The RD-MT operates under the control of a TG-V
microprocessor controller. The In-Cab Dual-Temp
Controller provides safe, convenient operation
and monitoring of cargo compartment
temperatures. Each cargo compartment is
controlled by its own thermostat. The temperature
of each of the compartments can be controlled
separately.
There are two RD-MT models:
RD-MT 30: Cooling and heating on diesel
engine operation.
RD-MT 50: Cooling and heating on diesel
engine operation or Electric Standby
operation.
During engine operation, power is provided by the
TK 3.95 three-cylinder, water-cooled, diesel
engine rated at 14.7 continuous horsepower
(10.96 kW) at 2400 RPM. A centrifugal clutch
(mounted on the engine) and a belt drive system
transfer energy to the compressor, the condenser
fan, and the alternator. The centrifugal clutch
engages when the engine reaches 600 ± 100 RPM.
The clutch isolates the engine from the belt drive
system during electric operation. Electric standby
power (Model 50) is provided by an electric
motor.
