PrimingHydraulicPumps
Wheneverthehydraulicsystemisushed,thehydraulicsystemischargedor
hydrauliccomponentsareinstalled,itisimportanttoproperlyprimethehydraulic
pumps.Hydraulicpumpprimingensuresthatthegearpumpandpiston(traction)
pumphaveadequateoilduringinitialstart−upandrunning.Thepumpscanbe
primedbyusingaremotestarterswitch(seeSpecialT ools(page2–15))tocrank
enginewhichallowsthepumpstoprime.
Usethefollowingproceduretoprimethehydraulicpumps:
1.MakesurethatkeyswitchisintheOFFpositionandkeyisremovedfrom
switch.
2.Checkhydraulicreservoiroillevelandadjustifnecessary.

Note:AbluewireconnectstothestartermotorsolenoidB+terminal(Figure
77).Itisnotnecessarytoremovethisbluewirefromthesolenoidterminal
forhydraulicpumppriming.
4.Connectremotestarterswitchelectricalleadstothestartermotorsolenoid
B+terminalandthepositivejumperpostnearthebattery−disconnectswitch.
5.Engageremotestarterswitchandcrankstarterforthirty(15)secondsto
primehydraulicpumps.Waitthirty(30)secondstoallowthestartermotor
andstartersolenoidtocool.Repeatcrankingprocedureasecondtime.
6.Disconnectremotestarterswitchleadsfromstartermotorsolenoidterminal
andpositivejumperpost.
