TIMING GEARS, CAMSHAFT
CHECKING OIL CLEARANCE OF CAMSHAFT
1.
Measure the camshaft bearing
in
the crankcase with
an
inside micrometer.
2.
Measure the camshaft journal with
an
outside micrometer. Calculate the clearance.
3.
If the clearance exceeds the allowable limit, replace the camshaft. See engine specifications.
CHECKING CAMSHAFT ALIGNMENT
1.
Gently put the camshaft
on
V blocks.
2.
Set a dial gauge to the journal.
3.
While slowly rotating the camshaft, read the dial gauge. The camshaft flexure is half of the
reading.
4.
If the measurement exceeds the allowable limit, replace the camshaft.
