PROCEdURE 10. REPLACE THE EPROM
The erasable programmable read‑only memory (EPROM) is a memory chip that contains the BVI3000
software. PCBs with a removable EPROM are software version 2.100 or lower. PCBs with a built‑in EEPROM
are software version 3.000 or higher and would need to be sent to Verathon for any desired software
updates. This procedure documents how to replace the EPROM on a PCB with a removable EPROM.

1 — EPROM extractor
1. At minimum, complete Step1 through Step5 of the procedure Disassemble the Console on page32.
You may complete the entire procedure if you are performing additional service procedures on the console.
2. Align the console so that the EPROM is visible.
3. Using the EPROM extractor, place the hooked prongs through the holes on opposing corners of the
EPROM socket, and then ensure the extractor has been pushed to the bottom of the socket.
4. Squeeze the EPROM extractor until the EPROM pops out of the socket, and then lift the EPROM out of
the socket. This removes the original EPROM.
5. Using the arrow and dot orientation indicators, align the new EPROM on the PCB, and then push the
EPROM firmly into the socket.

6. Complete any additional repairs to the console, and then reassemble the console according to the
procedure Reassemble the Console on page54.
When you have reassembled the console, ensure that you complete the procedure Program the Console
on page65.
