LinkLayerDiscoveryProtocol(LLDP)isanewprotocoldenedin
802.1ab.Itenablesthatneighbordevicescansendmessagesto
eachother .LLDPisusedtoupdatephysicaltopologyinformation
andcreateadevicemanagementinformationdatabase.
WorkingFlowTheworkingowofLLDPisdescribedasfollows:
1.Localdevicesendslinkandmanagementinformationtoneigh-
bordevices.
2.Localdevicereceivesnetworkmanagementinformationfrom
neighbordevices.
3.Localdevicesavesnetworkmanagementinformationreceived
fromneighbordevicesinMIB.Networkmanagementsoftware
cansearchtheconnectioninformationoflinklayerintheMIB.
FunctionLLDPisneitheracongurationprotocolofremotesystems,nora
signalcontrolprotocolforports.LLDPonlyndsoutthedifference
ofLayer2protocolcongurationonneighbordevicesandreports
theproblemtoupperlayer .Itdoesnotprovidecorresponding
mechanismtosolvetheproblems.
Generallyspeaking,LLDPisakindofneighbordiscoveryprotocol,
providingastandardfordevicesinEthernet,suchasswitches,
routersandwirelessLANaccesspoints.Ithelpsthedevicestotell
theneighborsitsexistenceandsavesdiscoveryinformationofthe
neighbors.Informationsuchascongurationanddeviceidentier
canbenotiedbyLLDP .
LLDPDULLDPdenesauniversaladvertisementset,aprotocolfornotify-
ingadvertisementmessagesandamethodtosavereceivedad-
vertisementmessages.ThedevicescanuseaLinkLayerDiscov-
eryProtocolDataUnit(LLDPDU)tonotifymultipleadvertisement
messages.
TLVTheLLDPDUcontainsashortmessageunitofavariablelength,
calledTypeLengthValue(TLV).
