ALTITUDE ALERTING
The altitude alerter provides an approach alert (“APPROACHING
SEL ALT”) when the aircraft altitude is within the approach limit
(typically 1000') of the selected altitude. The approach alert
includes approach limit and a highlighting of the selected altitude.
At this point the altitude alerter considers the selected altitude to
be captured and the deviation alert is armed.
The altitude alerter provides a deviation alert on the altimeter
(“ALTITUDE DEVIATION”) when the deviation alert is armed and
then the aircraft deviates from the selected altitude by greater
than the deviation limit. The deviation alert includes a text alert
message near the altitude indicator while the deviation alert is
active.
The behavior of the altitude alerter is the same whether the
selected altitude is approached from below or above.
To reset the altitude alerter, set the altitude to the target altitude.
FLYING A CONSTANT RATE TURN
The proper technique for flying a constant rate turn involves using
a combination of the turn indicator and the bank angle indicator.
Standard Rate Left Turn
Initiate the standard rate turn by banking to an initial angle of 20
degrees with reference to the bank indicator. Adjust the bank
angle to standard rate by reference to the standard rate turn
indicator. The tip of the blue rate of turn indicator displays the
