USE OF APPROACH CHARTS
The system is typically loaded with IFR Approach charts (not
Enroute charts) that can be accessed via the hot links to charts
method just described or via the Charts or Charts + tabs on the
Map page.
If an approach has already been defined in the FMS flight plan,
the Charts tabs will present the selected approach for the
designated airfield.
If an approach has not yet been defined in the FMS flight plan,
the Charts tabs will present a Charts Selection page on which a
list of available charts is presented in list format. Use either the
FMS knob on the keyboard or the right-hand knob on the IFD to
select the desired approach from the presented list and push the
knob in to select and display the chart or press the “Display
Chart” LSK.
Once a chart is displayed, the right-hand LSKs provide means to
alter the view or presentation of the chart. For example, day/night
mode may be selected or one of five chart views can be selected
(Plan, Header, Profile, Minimums, All). The chart can be zoomed
in/out as desired by using the right-hand knob on the IFD and
panning works via the keyboard joystick.
An ownship symbol is automatically displayed in a properly geo-
referenced location on the chart, as well as an overlay of the
current flight plan.
Charts that have been expired for 60 or more days will still be
displayed and readable but a watermark “Not for Navigation” will
be drawn on each chart.
FLYING AN AUTOPILOT COUPLED APPROACH
Ensure the approach has been entered into the FMS flight plan,
that it is currently active, and the correct local barometric setting
has been entered into the IFD and standby altimeter. If the
autopilot had been engaged in NAV mode and one of the vertical
modes (VNAV, Alt Hold, Alt Capture, VS Hold, IAS Hold) prior to
starting the published approach, the inbound course will be
automatically set for you, including on localizer or ILS approaches
where the course pointer is just for reference. In every case, the
