Introduction
Completion of the FMC preflight requires data entry in all minimum required data
locations. Entry of all required and optional preflight data optimizes FMC
accuracy.
The FMC provides the pilot entered Zero Fuel Weight, Origin airport and takeoff
runway to the Electronic Flight Bag (EFB). The EFB will use this data along with
other airplane data (OAT and QNH) to compute the optimal V-speeds for the
airplane/conditions. The flight crew then selects a “Send to FMC” prompt on the
EFB to uplink the reference speeds to the FMC. The takeoff V-speeds, V1, VR,
and V2 are displayed on the TAKEOFF REF 1/2 page in small font along with
associated takeoff planning data. REJECT and ACCEPT prompts are displayed at
LSK 5L and 5R on the TAKEOFF REF 1/2 page. Once the flight crew selects the
ACCEPT prompt on the TAKEOFF REF 1/2 page, the V-speeds are displayed in
large font on the CDU pages and also displayed on the PFD speed tape.
Although the EFB is the expected tool to provide V-speeds on the 787, the crew
still has the option to manually enter the desired V-speeds and associated takeoff
data. A third option is to have the V-speeds and takeoff data uplinked by datalink
from the Airline Company (AOC). Using datalink reduces the number of required
flight crew actions. Manual flight crew entries replace existing data.
Preflight Page Sequence
The identification page usually displays when power is applied to the FMC.
Preflight flow continues in this sequence:
identification (IDENT) page
position initialization (POS INIT) page
route (RTE) page
DEPARTURES page (no prompt)
navigation radios (NAV RAD) page (no prompt)
EFB - INITIALIZE FLIGHT (no prompt)
performance initialization (PERF INIT) page
thrust limit (THRUST LIM) page
takeoff reference (TAKEOFF REF 1/2) page
EFB - Onboard Performance Tool (no prompt)
takeoff reference (TAKEOFF REF 2/2) page (no prompt)
takeoff reference (TAKEOFF REF 1/2) page
Some of these pages are also used in flight.
