Introduction
In the unlikely event that an unrecoverable loss of all displays or loss of all three
FMCs occurs, a backup navigation capability is available through the Tuning and
Control Panel (TCP). Under normal power conditions pushing the NAV key on
any of the three TCPs accesses the alternate navigation capability. When on
standby power, only the left (Captain’s) TCP is available for alternate navigation
use. Back-up navigation information is displayed on the TCPs, and the ISFD,
allowing the aircrew to safely land at the nearest suitable airport.
When alternate navigation is in use, LNAV and VNAV are not available. Autopilot
and autothrottles may be available.
Alternate Navigation Waypoint
The TCPs do not have a performance or navigation database. A single waypoint
may be manually entered by the flight crew on the ALTN NAV page.
Alternate Navigation TCP Pages
The alternate navigation system operates from two TCP pages:
•ALTN NAV
• ALTN NAV RADIO
