Both packs should be used (when possible) for maximum cooling.
Recirculation fans should be on for maximum cooling capacity. To
maximize the cooling capacity of the air conditioning system, all doors,
including cargo doors, should be kept closed as much as possible. All
gasper outlets should be open. Passenger cabin windows should be fully
dimmed. Flight deck cooling can be improved by closing the flight deck
door and lowering the side trays adjacent to the pilot seats.
CAUTION: Recirculation fans must remain ON unless a
non-normal checklist directs to select them off.
Operations Requiring Thermal Buffer Fuel
Main tank fuel temperature can exceed limits on hot days primarily due to
hydraulic heating of the fuel. (Refer to Fuel Loading
in Chapter L, Section
10, for additional information.)
[Option – English / Metric units]
The following table should be used to calculate thermal buffer fuel
requirements when operating at airports where OAT exceeds 110°F/43°C.
